Comments: R S Mattingly (Nee: ) | Stanford KY | 1851-1900 | Comments: This great mini CDV photograph is slightly smaller than standard CDV size. It is 2 inches by 3 inches. The photo show a very young rail road worker holding a very interesting signal lantern. He is identified in period ink as R. S. Mattingly, Stanford, Kentucky. He must have been a switchman. He is wearing a bowler derby hat; has a watch chain at his waist and what looks like some wild flowers tucked into his shirt front. On the back of the photo it says "Youngest worker at this 'L & N' yards." This probably stands for the Lexington and Nashville Railroad, but with a little bit of research you could probably confirm that.
