Answers:

1. How can I submit a photo?

  1. Make sure that your photos are identified and that they meet Dead Fred's criteria. Currently, the Dead Fred's Photo Archive only contains photos that are older than 1960 of subjects since deceased. All submissions must fall within these guidelines.
  2. Scan each one in JPG format. For best results, scan at 150 dpi resolution or higher and save at 72 dpi.
  3. Click on the "Post Photos" option on the menu, and you will find the submission form. Use the "Browse. . ." button to locate and add the photo file from your computer. Then click on the "Upload Image" button.
  4. Now your photo has its own record number! Follow the prompts on the resulting page. Type in the identification information in the proper fields, and then submit.
  5. Repeat the process for each of your photos.

Your photos will appear online witin 3-5 days of being successfully uploaded.

3. Can you help me locate my ancestors or my family?

Due to the large amount of correspondence we receive (and because we are all volunteer - and there aren't many of us) we may not be able to personally respond to everyone's request. However, you can post your request to our Yahoo! Group by joining here. There are lots of kind souls who may be able to help or point you in the right direction.

4. Is there a fee in order to submit a photo?

There's no fee. However, if you'd like, you may send a donation to help support the archive. See FAQ #15 below.

5. After I submit a photo, how long will it take before it appears on the site?

Since we are a volunteer effort here at DeadFred, it sometimes takes up to 1-2 days for us to review all of the submitted photos and approve them. This approval process insures that no "funny business" gets added to the archive. If you submit a photo and do not see it on the site after 5 days, please let us know by filling out the contact form, or by emailing webmaster@deadfred.com.
