Elsie appears to be about 1-2 years old at the time the photograph was taken. Elsie is identified as "Aunt Alice's daughter's daughter" and it appears that the photograph was a gift "To Aunt Maud". Elsie's mother is Eva Etta SHANNON, and her mother referenced as "Aunt Alice" is Julie Alice LANE and "Aunt Maud" is Alice's sister Maude Newman LAIN. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Elsie and her family:
Eva Etta SHANNON was b. 7 Jul 1890 in Lebanon, TN to parents John Haney SHANNON (1859-1946) and Julia Alice LAIN (1864-1943). Eva was one of 9 children born to this couple including John Rufus; William Albert; Eva Etta; Hugh; Leslie “Lessie” or “Lee” Newman; Patrick; Ora Anice or May; Margaret Frances; and Haney Elwin or Helwin or Elvin “Kinkie” SHANNON, all born between 1884 and 1903. Eva married Sullivan Ross HANCOCK (1883-1950) and they had four children including Elsie Ross; Louise or Lolulee; Thomas Emsley; and Genevieve Annice HANCOCK, all born between 1908 and 1914. Eva died 2 May 1976 in Austin, TX and is buried in the Calvary Cemetery in Marlin, TX.
Julia Alice LAIN was b. 18 Feb 1864 in Quincy, MO or Wilson County, TN to parents William Henry LANE or LAIN or LAINE (1838-1914) and Sarah Ann VAN HOOK or VANHOOK (b. 1842) who were married 12 Jan 1859 in Wilson County, TN. Julia was one of 10 children born to this couple including Albert; Julia Alice; Ida; William “Willy” Armstead or Augustus; William “Will” James; Angie or Angy Frances; Mable; Zuretha Myrtle; Nancy “Nannie” Neuraney or Newraney; and Maude Newman LAIN, all born between 1862 and 1879.
Julia married John Haney “Haynor” SHANNON on 23 Sept 1883 in Lebanon, TN and they had the 9 children identified above. Julia died 23 Dec 1943 in Paris, TX and is buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Paris, TX.
Maude Newman LAIN was b. 23 Oct 1878 in Wilson County, TN and married John “Johnny” Dillard TRIBBLE (1873-1949) on 28 Jan 1897 in Wilson County, TN. The couple had three children including Erma Clarice; Myrtle Bell; and Violet Maude TRIBBLE, all born between 1897 and 1905. Maude died 23 Mar 1943 in Lebanon, TN and is buried in the Wilson County Memorial Park Cemetery in Lebanon, TN. Her daughter Erma married Roy Liston CARVER, and Myrtle married Willie B. HAYBORN, and Violet married William McKnight RUCKER.
