The photograph appears to have been taken around 1900. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Sydney and his family:
Sydney SMITH was b. 20 Apr 1900 in Long Island or New York City, NY to parents John Theodore SMITH (1866-1943) and Pemelia Virginia “Vernie” TAYLOR (1875-1946). Sydney was one of 6 children born to this couple including Sydney Taylor; Pamelia T.; Marjorie; Dorothy; Rodney; and John Carleton SMITH, all born between 1900 and 1916.
