CARVER which was taken at the Bogardus Studio in New York City, NY. The photograph was taken some time in the 1880's, most likely while the subject was a student at the Union Theological Seminary in New York City. I believe that this is a photograph of Augustus Harry CARVER who was a member of the Class of 1884 at the Seminary.
Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Augustus and his family:
Reverend Augustus H. CARVER was b. 6 Sept 1854 in Pennsylvania to parents James CARVER and Susan G. HELWIG (1829-1917) who were married about 1854. Augustus had one brother, Charles C. CARVER (b. 1858). Augustus married Maude E. SCHOTT (1856-1945) in 1884. The couple had three children including Augustus Harry Jr.; Mary Genevieve; and Kenneth James CARVER, all born between 1887 and 1895. Augustus died 2 Jul 1923 in Edgerton, MN and he is buried in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne, MN.
