Birth place in Ireland is unknown. He married Martha P Gibson of Louisa Co, Va. in 1852. Her father was Oragin Gibson. Her birth date is unknown. They bought land in Spotsylvania Co in 1852, had a daughter Mary born in 1853 but died in 1855. They had a son Frederick William Anderson born in Spotsylvania in 1855. They sold their land by 1858. Third child Eugene Anderson’s birth is thought to be 1858 but location is unknown. Both John & Martha had left the area by the 1860 census. Frederick was 5 & living with LeRoy Gatewood in Caroline Co Va. Eugene was 2 living with Dr Fleming J Hancock of Spotsylvania, Va. in 1860. Records of the guardianships are in the Spotsylvania Courthouse in 1859/60. Our Family knows nothing of what happened to John & Martha. Lore says they “died together suddenly”. No records exist. Frederick left Va for Ohio working on the railroad. Eugene bought 200 acres in western Caroline Co. Va & farmed tobacco. This portrait was passed down from his son Eugene. Would love any information on these families.
