Comments: Jacob Wesley Houseman (Nee: ) | New Bloomfield PA United States | 1851-1900 | Comments: I have an old studio photograph of Rev. J. W. HOUSEMAN of New Bloomfield, Perry County, PA which was taken in 1894. Reverend HOUSEMAN appears to be in his 30's at the time it was taken. I believe that this is a photograph of Jacob Wesley HOUSEMAN.
Notes on the back of the photograph also indicate that he was at the "Snyder's United Brethren Church, which was often called The Log Church" and that he "received John, Noble, and me into church on 25 Nov 1894" and "also Ben, Laura, Ella and other OWENS at same time".
Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Jacob and his family:
Rev. Jacob Wesley HOUSEMAN was b. 27 Oct 1859 in Pennsylvania to parents Christian HOUSEMEN (1831-1880) and Elizabeth SHAMBAUGH (1833-1914) who were married in Pennsylvania in 1855. Jacob was one of 9 children born to this couple including Clara; Theodore; Jacob Wesley; Elmore or Elmer Ellsworth; A. Christian; John Elliott; Margaret; David; Anna Elizabeth; and Lizzie HOUSEMAN, all born between 1856 and 1873.
Jacob married Ellen Jane KEENER (1861-1938) on 7 Dec 1880, and they had 10 children including Nina; Jacob Emory; Wilbur R.; Lottie Elizabeth; John Perry; Noble Owen; Ruth C.; Elma May; Nell E.; and William Henry HOUSEMAN, all born between 1880 and 1906. Jacob died 14 May 1935 in Carlisle, PA and is buried in the Greenmount Cemetery in Hampstead, MD.
I am hoping to get this photograph to family and would appreciate you contacting me if you are a member of this family or know someone who might be.
Thanks,
Shelley
