Comments: Adelia Antoinette Johnston (Nee: Field or Fields) | Oberlin OH | 1851-1900 | Comments: I've recovered an old photograph album from the late 1800's including faculty, staff, and students from Oberlin College which includes a photograph of Mrs. JOHNSTON. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's or 1890's with Mrs. JOHNSTON likely in her 40's at the time it was taken. Most of the photographs, like this one was taken by the Pfeifer Studio from Columbus, OH who probably came to take all the photographs at the Oberlin campus. I believe that this is a photograph of Adelia A. FIELDS or FIELD JOHNSTON and I’ve gathered the following information regarding Mrs. JOHNSTON and her family:
Adelia “Adeline” Antoinette FIELD or FIELDS was born 5 Feb 1837 in Chester or Lafayette, OH to parents Leonard FIELD (1809-1849) and Margaret GRIDLEY (1813-1887). Adelia had two siblings including Josephine FIELD (b. 1839) and Cynthia Josephine FIELD (1845-1923). Adelia married James Mix JOHNSTON (1834-1862 or 1900) on 17 Jul 1859 in Rochester, OH and she died 22 Jul 1910 in Oberlin, OH and is buried in the Westwood Cemetery in Oberlin.
I am hoping to locate someone from her family so that the photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me.
Thanks,
Shelley
