Comments: Mark Alfred Carleton (Nee: ) | United States | 1901-1920 | Comments: This picture of Mr. Mark Alfred Carleton appears on the illustration page between pages 8 and 9 of the Proceedings of the American Society of Agronomy, vol.2, 1910. There is a brief biographical sketch of him on pages 8-10 of that volume. Please see that reference for more details. Mr. Carelton was president of that society from 1907-1908. He was born 7 March 1866 near Jerusalem, Monroe County, Ohio, the son of Louis D. Carleton. (Louis' father, Abner G. Carleton --of English descent-- migrated to Ohio from Pennsylvania.) Mark A. Carleton's mother, Lydia J. Mann Carleton was of Dutch ancestry. In 1876 his family moved to a farm in Cloud County, Kansas. In 1884 he entered the Kansas Agricultural College at Manhattan and graduated in 1887. He became a teacher and also continued his education. In 1894 he began work for the US Dept of Agriculture. December 29, 1897 he married Amanda Elizabeth Faught, who was born in Kingman, Kansas in 1874 (daughter of R.D. and Hannah Faught). That is all the information I have on this picture. I am not researching this line, just saw the photo and thought I'd post it.
