There is a biographical sketch of him on pages 321-322 of that volume. John Dryden was born in 1840 in the township of Whitby. He became very involved in horticulture. He was Minister of Agriculture at one time. He reportedly lived in Brooklin, Ontario, Canada at one time as well.
