Comments: Joseph Lancaster Budd (Nee: ) | IA United States | 1851-1900 | Comments: This picture of Joseph Lancaster Budd appears on page 244 of The American Breeders Magazine, vol.1, no.4, 1910. Please see that reference for more details. There is a biographical sketch of him on pages 245-246 of that volume. Budd was born at Peekskill, Westchester County, New York in 1825. At age 20 he moved to Illinios and later purchased a farm in Benton County, Iowa where he established a commercial nursery. He became a Professor and was among the first to give instruction in plant breeding as a scientific and technical subject. He is especially known for his work with cherries, apples and roses. He died in 1902. That is all the information I have on this picture. I am not researching this line, just saw the photo and thought I'd post it.
