Gracey heard a baby’s cry as he sat in his home at 296 Melbourne avenue Tuesday evening. He listened, and the wail came again. On the rear porch of the house he found a seven-months-old baby. The child held a bottle of milk in its hand and lustily thumped the porch in indignation. Mr. Gracey telephoned the police, and the diminutive caller was taken to the Foundling home. The baby’s clothing bore no marks of identification. Seven months prior would make the baby’s birth in Dec. or Nov. 1913. Sept. 14, 1914, Probate Court Juvenile, case # 7939 selected birth date of March 17, 1913 (St. Patrick’s Day), The child would have been 15 to 16 months old when found (Mar. 1913 to June 1914). Most babies are walking by this time. The child was taken to the Women’s Hospital located on Forest and Beaubien streets. He was described as having blond hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion. Oct. 4, 1914, he was received by the Michigan Children’s Home Society from the Wayne County Probate Court, and then, placed with a boarding family. Oct. 28, 1914, he was placed with a second boarding family until Dec. 31, 1918. Jan. 9, 1919, he was placed with a family for adoption. This man is 95 years old and would like to identify his birth family.
