Nester appears on the illustration page facing page 198 in "A Century and a Quarter of History: Geneva," by Joel H. Monroe, Geneva, New York, 1912. See that title for more information. Mr. Samuel K. Nester was born in East brunswick, PA, 28 November 1840. As a young man he went to New York and worked in a malt house. Years later he moved to Phelps, NY and began his own malt house business. In 1870 he came to Geneva, NY. Before his death he had many malt houses in New York State, including: Buffalo, Lyons, Phelps, Waterloo and Geneva. He was also active in the real estate market and at one time had one of the largest total land holdings in Geneva. He was involved in many other businesses as well. Samuel K. Nester was married twice. His first wife was Carrie Terrell of Phelps. They had three children. Mr. Nester's second wife was Minnie Matthews of Chicago, they had three sons: Byron, Samuel and Harold. Samuel K. Nester died 10 January 1908.
