Dead Fred's Genealogy Photo Archive, a free, fun photo genealogy research web site devoted to helping you visualize your heritage!

Dear readers,

Please help us keep DeadFred alive. 90% of our expenses are supported by donations averaging $5. Not many visitors contribute. If each visitor reading this right now gave $2, our fundraiser would be done by the time you finish reading this. That's right, the price of a large can of soda would do it.

If DeadFred is helpful to you, please take a moment to help us. We are a very small group of volunteers serving thousands of readers daily with very little outside support. DeadFred is a place to share and discover the faces of your ancestors. The funds we receive go toward maintaining and improving your chances of discovery. Please help us so we can continue to help you.

Thank you,
Joe Bott

Comments: Sr. Mary Laurentia Purcell (Nee: Mary Bridget Purcell) | Rockhampton Queensland Australia | 1921-1940 | Comments: Mary Brigid Purcell was born in 1907 in Gortnagroagh, Co. Galway, Ireland. She was a daughter of National School teachers, Patrick Purcell (1882-1975) and Mary Bridget Reynolds (1881-1927). Like so many Irish people of her generation she suffered from TB. Having entered the Sisters of Mercy as a postulant her superiors sent her to Australia in the belief that the dry climate would restore her health. She left Tilbury Docks in London by boat in late 1927. She entered the Rockhampton Sisters of Mercy on 23rd December 1927, was received as Sr. Mary Laurentia on 15th August 1928 and was professed on her death-bed on 1st October 1932. Sr M Laurentia is buried in the Sisters of Mercy plot at the North Rockhampton Cemetery
