Tomlin served as Captain in NJ Cavalry, suffering shell wound at Fredericksburg and sabre cuts to the head while leading a charge at Sailor's Creek. In 1866 he married Lou Morell, dau of Rev. James Fletcher Morell and wife Sophia C. John and Lou had children Morell,Edward,Emma,John and Harold. He died 1912 and is buried at Finn's Point Cemetary,NJ.
