She married James Barefoot (1788-1844) of St. Clair Twp., Bedford, PA. They had 12 children. She was the doctor for her neighborhood and recorded seeing over 500 patients although she had no formal education in medicine. She was a member of the Evangelical Church of Pleasantville. She died in the home that her husband had built 68 years earlier. She was 93 years old and left behind 298 descendants. Mary Barefoot is buried in the Pleasantville Cemetery, Bedford, PA. The Barefoot Family Reunion has continued to thrive for over 85 years and meets in Windber, PA, the first Sunday of August.
