Comments: Elizabeth Uhler (Nee: Uhler) | Harrisburg PA US | | Comments: Elizabeth Uhler, the granddaughter of Revolutionary War soldier (John) Martin Uhler, was the second wife of George Bergner, a prominent figure in Pennsylvania history and politics. Her sister Catharine was Bergner's first wife until her death in 1865. Bergner was the owner and publisher of the Harrisburg Telegraph and several smaller American-German newspapers. In 1861 Pres. Lincoln appointed him to be the city's Postmaster General, and later, Pres. Grant re-appointed him to that position, one which he held until his death in1874. He led a very interesting life, as probably did his family. He and Catharine had three children, and with Elizabeth, only one daughter, Catharine.
