Comments: JAMES SCOTT KNIGHTS (Nee: ) | WAUKEGAN IL USA | 1851-1900 | Comments: BIRTH 5 Oct 1835 Lawrence, Essex County, Massachusetts, USA DEATH 6 Dec 1911 (aged 76) Waukegan, Lake County, Illinois, USA BURIAL Bellevue Cemetery Lawrence, Essex County, Massachusetts, USA /// Civil War veteran: He was a 25 year old Railroad Brakeman when he enlisted on April 15, 1861. On April 22, 1861 he was mustered in to Company I, 6th Massachusetts Infantry as a Private. He was promoted to Sergeant on August 31, 1862 and was mustered out on June 3, 1863 at Lowell, Massachusetts. He became a member of GAR Post # 374 in Waukegan, Illinois and served as Post Commander. He applied for his Civil War Pension in 1892 from the State of Illinois and his wife applied for her Widow`s Pension in 1912. Son of William Knights and Katherine Scott Knights. James married Betsey J. Foss, a daughter of Timothy Foss and Ruth Grant Foss, on May 1, 1856 in Lawrence, Massachusetts. James and Betsey had three children, Carrie, Mary and James H. They left Lawrence, Massachusetts and moved, first, to Kenosha, Wisconsin and later to Shields and Waukegan, Illinois, following James` work for the railroad. Two of their children, Carrie and James, eventually settled in California while, it is believed that Mary stayed in the Waukegan area. ///This photo with associated information as well as many other photos were bequeathed to DeadFreds Archive by Marge Rice upon her passing . Marge spent many years collecting these photos from yard sales ,flea markets, antique shops and photo donations. She spent many years researching meticulously each photo so she could find the photos family.Her selfless efforts resulted in her reuniting over 2,000 Ancestors photos to family. This collection is Marges Legacy . It is an incredible work of genealogy and Love by a wonderful caring lady.
