Comments: John Evelyn (Nee: ) | England | 1835-1850 | Comments: This picture of Mr. John Evelyn appears on page 504 of The Canadian Horticulturist, vol.XXVI, no.12, December 1903. There is a biographical essay on him on pages 504-505. Please see that reference for more details. Mr. John Evelyn of Wooston, Surrey, England was born in 1620. He was a student of trees and plants and kept a diary and was a scholar. At age 17 he went to University at Oxford and later to Middle Temple and for a time studied law. He spent some years in France, Switzerland and Italy. He authored several books. He died one year before the accession of Queen Anne, at the age of 86. That is all the information I have on this picture. I am not researching this line, just saw the photo and thought I'd post it
