Comments: Ainsworth Emery Blount (Nee: ) | United States | 1851-1900 | Comments: This picture of Professor Ainsworth Emery Blount appears on page 82 of The American Breeders Magazine, vol.III, no.2, 1912. There is a biographical sketch of him on pages 81-84 of that volume. Please see that reference for more details. Mr. Blount was born at Brainard, East Tennessee on 6 Feb. 1831. As a boy he spent time with Cherokee Indians and learned some of their language. His mother was Harriet Ellsworth Blount (granddaughter of Oliver Ellsworth, first Chief Justice of the US). He graduated Dartmouth College in 1859 and became a teacher. Later he served in the American Civil War. He married the daugher of Dr. J. F. Hall of Portsmouth, NH in 1865. After the war he began serious work in the breeding of cereal crops. He later was at the Colorado State Agricultural College and then he worked at the agriculural station in NM. Failing health caused him to retire and he spent his last years among family and friends in Wellesley, Mass. He died on 21 Feb. 1911. That is all the information I have on this picture. I am not researching this line, just saw the photo and thought I'd post it.
