Comments: Max Frederick Bishop (Nee: ) | Pa | 1921-1940 | Comments: Max Frederick BISHOP, born 25 Sept. 1899 in Waynesboro, Franklin County, PA, died 1 March 1962, buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Baltimore, Maryland. Child of Ulysses Grand BISHOP and Lula Blanch ZULLINGER. Professional baseball player. Obit reads“Max Bishop, Brilliant Star on A’s Champs, Dead at 62 - Expert at drawing Walks coached navy teams 24 years. Max Frederick Bishop, the second baseman for Connie Mac’s last three pennant winners and one of the greatest leadoff batters of all time, died in his sleep at the home of a cousin in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, February 24, 1962 at the age of 62. Death is believed to have been caused by a heart attack. Bishop, who resided in Baltimore, had returned to the town of his birth to attend funeral services for his mother, Mrs. Lulu Bishop, 93, who had died on February 22, 1962. She was buried several hours after her son’s death. The gentlemenly and reserved former star had planned to retire as baseball coach of the U. S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, a post he had held for 24 years, on March 1. He was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Baltimore following services at the Ellsworth Armacost Funeral Chapel”
