Comments: B. Gott (Nee: ) | Canada | 1851-1900 | Comments: This portrait of Mr. B. Gott appears on page 173 of The Canadian Horticulturist, vol.XX, no.5, May, 1897. See that article for more information. Mr. B. Gott was the eldest son (age 12) of a family of nine who immigrated to Canada from across the Atlantic in 1845. They first settled in Southfield, near St. Thomas but in 1852 moved to West Williams, Middlesex Co. Mr. B. Gott was a teacher for a time in the township of Oneida, Haldimand Co., on the Grand River near Cayuga and then in Ancaster near Ancaster Village. He later taught in the public school in Arkona, Lambton Co. and then in Watford, Thedford, Corunna and other places for 8 years. He then bought a farm in Arkona and devoted himself to horticulture and being a nurseryman and fruit grower. He established the Arkona Nurseries in 1862. In 1893 he retired to the town of Strathroy.
