They were involved in founding a number of long lasting institutions in Geneva. Thomas was born in 1820 and died in 1895. He came to the United States with his brother Edward and settled in Geneva in 1837. He was involved in several businesses, including the nursery business. At the time of his death he was president of the W. & T. Smith Company.
