Comments: James Patrick Brennan (Nee: ) | Ireland | 1901-1920 | Comments: James P. Brennan (1886-1968) thought to have been photographed while living in Dorchester, MA circa 1919. He was a son of Patrick Brennan (1853-1915) and Ellen Frizzell (1864-1932) of Rhue, Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo. His siblings were Margaret Brennan Walsh Carros, Mary Anne Brennan DeVito, John Joseph Brennan and Patrick Brennan. James emigrated to the US in 1911. Before and after his military service he worked as a tram car driver with the Boston Elevated Railway Company at the Milk St. and Grove St. stations. He enlisted at Fort Andrews, MA on 29 August 1917 even though he'd filled out the draft. His Service No was was 580176. From enlistment to September 2, 1918 he was in the 8th Company, Coast Artillery Corps, Massachusetts National Guard, which was manned by men from the 23rd Company from the Boston Coast Defenses. From September 1918 until January 1919 he served in France with AEF. James was Honorably Discharged on February 18, 1919 and was demobilized at Camp Devens, MA. In March 1921 at St. Attracta's RC Church, Tourlestrane, Co. Sligo he married Mary Kate Cooke (27 June 1891-5 May 1968), daughter of James Cooke, (1859-1922)and Margaret Ruddy, (1858-1919), with whom he had 3 children, Patrick, (1922-1978), James Charles, (1924-2001) and Anna M. Brennan. He farmed land at Carrowreagh Cooper, Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo until his death on 8 May 1968. His was a joint funeral with his wife, Mary Kate who died on 5 May 1968. They are buried together in Rhue Cemetery near Tubbercurry.
