Comments: Amos Johns (Nee: ) | IL? United States | 1851-1900 | Comments: *** PLEASE NOTE: Photograph was copied from eBay and I do not have the original, nor any additional information. All identifying and genealogical information was provided by the seller on eBay with the photograph. However, in *some* cases I may have done a little research on the name and added it to the comment field also as, "NOTE:", to help a researcher with the photograph. *** AMOS JOHNS: The sixth plate image is of a handsome young cavalry (what appears to be) officer, wearing a short jacket, oval belt buckle and what looks like a sword hangar on his belt. His buttons, buckle and epaulets have been gold tinted by the photographer. He also looks to be wearing gloves - not sure. On the back of the tin itself, appears to be a faintly written or lightly scratched inscription that I make out to be "Amos Johns 7th Ill. Cav. A Co." UPDATE: In the opinion of an Ebayer who volunteered further info on this image; the soldier is not an officer and not (at least at the time the image was taken) a cavalry trooper as he seems to be wearing a long frock identifying him as infantry. My reading of the inscription on the back may be inaccurate but I certainly intend no deception - judge for yourself, there is an inscription.
