Obituary, Fair Dealer, Ottawa, IL - Aug 16, 1918
"Sidney E. Smith, son of Alva O. and Olive Warren Smith, was born near Serena, Ill., Dec 17, 1858, and died at his home in Ladysmith, Wis., Aug. 3, 1918, after an illness of several weeks duration. He was married to Miss Ada Hoxie of Ottawa, Ill., July 25, 1888. Besides his widow he is survived by five children. Alva O., somewhere in France: Mrs. May Mahar and Willis Martin and Lois at home. The remains were brought here Monday and the funeral was held at the D. A. Hall home Tuesday morning, Aug. 6, at 9:30 o`clock. Rev. Gillson had charge of the services and Miss Inez Pooler of Serena sang. Interment in the Pleasant Hill cemetery."
