Comments: David Reid McClary (Nee: ) | Trinity Center CA United States | 1851-1900 | Comments: David Reid *Red Shirt Mac* McClary 1828-1904. Born in Pennsylvania, DR McClary (as he preferred on documents) is first found in the Northern California gold fields in 1850. He registered for the civil war draft, but if he served it is unclear as to which of the 2 David R McClarys he was. In the 1870 Trinity County, CA census he is 42 yrs old, born in PA to a father of foreign birth and cannot read or write. In 1878 at 50 years old he marries a Miss Emma Jane Parry, a woman 30 years his junior. They have a total of 5 children, 4 of whom make it to adulthood and he continues to live and mine in Northern California until moving to Sonoma County in 1900. The 1896 voter registration gives a physical description of him as: Dark complexion, Brown eyes, Gray hair, 5ft 9 1/2", with "DRMcC" and 3 "stars" tatooed on right forearm, miner, born in PA, able to read the constitution in English. DRMcClary died in Oakland, CA in 1904. Any assistance in determining his parents, siblings, pre-California life, etc., would be greatly appreciated.
