YES, these are boys in the photo!! Despite their clothing. Very common practice during the era.
I was able to confirm their existence as the sons of John M. and Mary Ellen McConnell. The family lived in Clarksville, Mercer County PA, as of the 1900 census. By 1910, the boys had moved on, while the parents were living in Fairview PA.
King was born in Dec of 1883 and died in 1913. Named after his mother, whose maiden name was King.
William was born in Aug of 1885. These years were confirmed on the back under their names.
Based on these dates, I am dating this photo as 1887.
