Comments: Louis Hippolyte Joutel (Nee: ) | New York City NY United States | 1901-1920 | Comments: This photo of Louis H. Joutel appears in the Journal of the New York Entomological Society, vol.XXIV, no.4, Dec. 1916, plate12. There is a four page obit of him there. Louis was born 19 August 1858 to a family of French descent in an area called "French Woods" a short distance north of the Delaware River in Delaware County, NY. Later his family moved to New York City where he attended school. For thirty-five years he lived in a house at 164 East 117th street. He took a keen interest in gardening and later became a natural history artist. He was the recording secretary to the New York Entomological Society from 1894 to 1897 and treasurer from 1898 to 1903. In 1903 he suffered from pneumonia. Later he developed consumption (tuberculosis). He died 6 September 1916 and was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY. That is all the information I have. I am not researching this line, just saw the photo and thought I'd post it.
